The New Jersey state police union has endorsed incumbent U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg for re-election over Republican rival Dick Zimmer.
State Policemen Benevolent Association (PBA) President Anthony F. Wieners wrote a letter to Lautenberg saying that he won their endorsement because of his support for law enforcement grants and “ensuring that officers are protected in their collective bargaining and due process rights.”
The union claims 33,000 members statewide.
“I have always been proud to stand strong for New Jersey's law enforcement officers. The Bush Administration has been no friend to law enforcement, but these men and women in uniform know that they will always have an ally in Frank Lautenberg,” said Lautenberg in response.

Let's translate.
The PBA is for Lautenberg not because of his position on law enforcement issues, the PBA endorsed him because Lautenberg endorses the obscene amount of money cops make in New Jersey.
It's the same with the NJEA. They don't endorse based on educational issues or what's good for kids, they endorse based on who will promise them the biggest raise.
Something the public has yet to comprehend, so the "scam" continues!
Vote Column A - All the way!
the same union
that supports the infringement and denial of 2nd amendment rights in NJ.
LAUTENBERG = PUTIN
re: Let's translate
Of course they want the biggest possible raises and other benefits. That's the whole purpose of a union. Doesn't matter if it is the PBA, the NJEA or the Teamsters, the union is working to benefit its members, not the employer.
What Are They Thinking?
As a member of the PBA I am disgusted that the state PBA made this endorsement. Frank Lautenberg is all about tax and spend and for fighting for the rights of criminals. How can the PBA stand next to a guy who's biggest supporter is the ACLU, who's sole objective is to tear down everything that makes this country great?
Lautenberg says that Bush is not a friend of Law Enforcement? Bush is the one who signed into law the right for law enforcement officers to carry their guns over state lines and for retired law enforcemnent the right to carry as well. Frank Lautenberg fought this tooth and nail.
Get it right Frank Lautenberg is no friend to law enforcement. I sincerely hope the FOP does not make this mistake! If they don't they may have a new member!
lautenberg
It should come as no surprise that the NJ PBA is supporting Sen. Lautenberg. The PBA is a union and as such is owned by the democrats and crime figures. Luckilly the rank and file officers think and vote republican. Therefore the PBA endorcement is useless . While I am ashamed of my union, I am confident its members will vote with their conscience.
Ridiculous
The State PBA leadership should be ashamed of themselves. Lautenberg is NOT the person we need in NJ. I am a police officer and I will vote for Zimmer. Tony Wieners does not speak for me.
